Carnival season means one thing in New Orleans, KING CAKE! And while there seem to be king cakes available everywhere sometimes, you want to make your own semi-homemade king cake. Or maybe you live elsewhere in a place where king cakes aren’t a thing (I’m sorry).
Either way, these mini king cakes made with cinnamon rolls are quick and easy to make, and great to make with kids.
Ingredients to Make Mini King Cakes
You need Pillsbury Grand Cinnamon Rolls, the icing that comes with the rolls, milk, powdered sugar, and purple, green, and gold-colored sugar. One can of cinnamon rolls makes 4 mini king cakes.
How to make Mini King Cakes
Preheat your oven to 375. Then take your cinnamon rolls and roll them out into strips. Take two strips and braid them together into a little circle until you have enough little king cakes.
Pop them in the oven for 10-15 minutes. Then set aside to cool.
Once your mini king cakes are cool, it’s time to ice them. Take the icing the cinnamon rolls came with and mix it in a bowl with 2 tsp of milk, and 1/4 cup of confectioners (powdered sugar). If it’s too runny, add more powdered sugar. If it’s too thick, add more milk
Ice your mini king cakes and sprinkle purple, green, and gold-colored sugar on top. Now eat and enjoy it.
